New risks arise on what seems to be a daily basis. This quick guide will help you implement new risks on demand.
For those of you in the education world, finding and preventing threats to students can seem like a daunting task as kids find new ways to endanger themselves. Here at ManagedMethods we do our best to provide you with the tools necessary to address new threats to your students as they appear.
We have noticed that the “Choking Game” appears to be gaining in popularity among children again, and I figured it would be a great way to demonstrate how easy it can be to create new risk scans in your cloud environments.
For those of you unfamiliar with the choking game, it is basically restricting oxygen flow to a person until they pass out, sounds like fun right? As we all might guess, this is incredibly dangerous and results in deaths every year in the USA.
When setting up a new risk, it’s a good idea to think about what exactly you’d like to be scanning for.
Before you dive in, ask yourself…
1) Am I looking to identify a list of keywords, or a pattern (for instance student numbers)?
For choking game we are looking for a keyword list.
2) Will my keywords / patterns generate copious amounts of false positives in my environment?
This is a very important question to thoroughly think through, no one wants to wake up to 5000 new risks.
3) How can I limit false positives?
While creating my keywords, I want to use phrases over distinct keywords, focusing on pronouns, and context. For the choking game, This would look like “she passed out”. “I passed out”, “he choked”, “he suffocated”, etc.
Once these questions have been answered we can start refining our keywords, and get to creating the risk scan. Follow the directions below to create the custom risk.
